We have been looking at contractions. There are two different types of contractions.

A contraction is a shortened form of one or two words (one of which is usually a verb). In a contraction, an apostrophe takes the place of the missing letter or letters.

Some contractions are: I'm (I am), can't (cannot) and how's (how is).

Let's see how many contractions we can come up with. Write two words which can be contracted. The next person writes the contracted form and adds two more words. I will start the chain off so you can see how it works.
