We have been enjoying reading books by Chris van Allsburg.

What is your favourite part of The Polar Express?

We have been looking at contractions. There are two different types of contractions.

A contraction is a shortened form of one or two words (one of which is usually a verb). In a contraction, an apostrophe takes the place of the missing letter or letters.

Some contractions are: I'm (I am), can't (cannot) and how's (how is).

Let's see how many contractions we can come up with. Write two words which can be contracted. The next person writes the contracted form and adds two more words. I will start the chain off so you can see how it works.

It is really important that all children learn to touch type. Touch typing is fast and means you are looking at the screen and not at the keys. This means your typing will be more accurate. Click on the link to practise your touch typing.

DOGS AT THE BEACH
Two excited dogs ready to have a great time.
Waves crashing on the sand.
Running, jumping into the water.
Seagulls swooping down into the ocean.
Dogs enjoying playing together in the ocean.
They were on an adventure in the smashing and crashing ocean. They found some rocks and saw some interesting fish. They were so excited. It was just whitebait! There was a crab. It nipped the dogs foot. “Ouch!” said the white dog. What a great day at the beach. What a tiring day at the beach. What an adventurous day!

RENA.
Splash!!! Water and oil was everywhere. Screaming helicopters flying above. String and containers falling heavily into the black sea. Fish dying and floating up to surface covered in black oil. Rena cracking, oil spilling out of the Rena like blood pouring out of a possum.

Jon Scieszka is a guy who writes books — funny books.

Mr. Scieszka is one of six Scieszka brothers who grew up "wrestling in the living room, fighting at the dinner table, and tying up the babysitter." In class we have the hilarious 'Knucklehead' - Jon Scieszka's autobiography about his childhood. Enjoy the book by yourself or with a buddy. Then put on your thinking cap. Even if you've never had your brother try to sell you your own shirt or tied a sibling to a bed, you have a family story to tell. Your family history, your heritage, is more than just dates and places. There are stories to be told and retold.

Here is your challenge: Write a recount describing something funny that has happened to you. Keep it short - just a few sentences is plenty, BUT BEWARE, only those with capital letters and fullstops will be published on our blog. Good luck!

We are running a competition to create our own pictures based around our Seuss-type rhymes. Can you make a picture or take a photo to show a frog on a log or a mouse in a house? Have a go at a moose on the loose ...
Email your pictures, photos or edited photos to your teacher and you just might get to see them published on the blog. There will be prizes for the most creative images.

Can you come up with some of your own?

Room 7 have begun a fundraising activity to raise money to build a wall around an orphanage and school in Kenya. We heard about the programme to build the wall on Close Up and how Conrad Smith, the All Black is giving his support
to raise the money.
The orphange and school were built by a New Zealand charity called So They Can and you can see what they are up to at their website www.sotheycan.org.nz
When we saw the children at the orphanage we realised how lucky we are and it made us wonder how we could help.
Inspired by the programme Pennies for Peace we decided to collect as many 10cent coins as we could, attach them to paper bricks, each worth $1 and donate them to Conrad's Wall.
We have already discovered that 10c coins aren't worth much by themsleves but if there are enough of them, they can be very valuable and powerful.. We believe our 10c coins can
stack up and build the wall to help keep the children safe and happy.
We want to help the children at the Holding Hands Orphange and we'd welcome your support too.
We believe that every small good deed makes the world a better place.

My bedroom re-do

“Do I have to I too dad” I whined loudly. My dad and my brother, Ben was demanding that I tidy my bedroom. I decided only bone thing, you have to help me I asked quickly and quietly.

Yes we will help you tidy dad said. “No way I’m helping Amy” Ben said looking very angry. Ben slouched on the couch and shouted I want a cookie” then dad said “you can have a cookie if you help Amy” ben just couldn’t say no.

We were as busy as bees, but ben was hungry as a horse. My bed got taken backwards agenst the wall so we could clean under it. We were all going through a small gap when disaster struck bens head got stuck ben squiggled and finally after a lot of time bens head got unstuck.

After that we tided and tided it took forever but we finally finished and my bedroom looked great. Now it was it was time to re-do my bedroom. My bed got swapped with my draws, my piano got swapped with my dolls house and VoilĂ  my bedroom looked brand new.
